DELIGHT THYSELF IN THE LORD
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires
of thine heart. (Psalms 37:4)
To delight means to take pleasure or have great joy in something or
someone. David by the Spirit of God admonished us to take great
pleasure in the Lord.
This has to be a present continuous exercise. Our delight in the Lord
should not be restricted to a particular season or phase of our lives
but rather a constant day to day and minute to minute act.
However, it’s saddening to know that many believers only delight
themselves in the Lord when things seem well in their sights. When
they are faced with challenges they tend to take no pleasure in the
Lord, or even take pleasure in other things. Delighting ourselves in
the Lord can be
explained in two ways with different scenarios.
The first one is to delight ourselves in the Lord when we are faced
with what appear to be insurmountable challenges. Distractions,
discouragement and weariness may show up while going through some of
these challenges.
Nevertheless, we shouldn’t be swayed away by any of these challenges,
instead we deliberately have our delight on the law of the Lord and in
this we meditate day and night (Psalms 1:2) This will keep us
delighted in the Lord in spite of those challenges, then the Lord will
bring to light our desires and we start living the life of the blessed
man Psalms 1:1-3 talks about.
The second scenario of delighting ourselves in the Lord is to delight
ourselves in the Lord more than in the blessings the Lord has given
us. Often times folks get overwhelmed by the blessings and put aside
the giver of the blessings. This simply means delight yourself in the
beautiful wife the Lord gave you but delight in the Lord more. Be
addicted to and in the Lord.
Delight in your beautiful house, good job, riches and prosperity,
family and in all the blessings the Lord has given you but delight
more in the Lord. This is the mystery of eternal living unveiled. Do
you remember what Jesus told Peter in John 21:15a? And that foolish
man who had no delight in the Lord? (Luke 12:19-20)
Please delight in the Lord more than in anyone or anything.
Delight in him always and he shall give you all the desires of your heart.
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY :
