SOUL WINNER MUST PRAY
But we will give ourselves CONTINUALLY TO PRAYER, and to the ministry
of the word. [Acts 6:4]
It’s important to note that Preaching will not do it, if praying has
not first done it. “It is said often, he who would speak to man for
God, must speak much to God for man”.
Jesus was an exemplary man of prayer. Multitudes gravitate towards Him
everywhere. He also prayed to a point where His sweat was like a drop
of blood. The Bible records that if what Jesus did were to be written,
the whole book of the world will not be enough to contain what would
be written.
Apostle Peter preached close to thirty minutes sermon and 3,000 souls
of Jews were won in a day after ten days of waiting and praying and
also looking at Acts 3 it was recorded that disciples have hours of
prayer as a custom. Apostle Paul was also a man of Prayer. He prayed
without season. He had amazing feats and exploits in soul winning with
a point of reference relevant till today.
However, looking at our opening verse, the Apostle says…”But we will
give ourselves CONTINUALLY TO PRAYER and to the ministry of the Word.
If we notice in that verse prayer was the first priority, followed by
the ministry of the Word. The aftermath result of this exercise was
recorded in the same chapter, Acts 6:7 which says “and the word of God
increased; and the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a
great company of the “unbelieving priests” were obedient to the faith.
First, soul winner needs to pray for COMPASSION not passion for souls
because in the scheme of things compassion is superior to passion. And
it is the lasting compelling force for soul winning. [Matthew 9:36].
Second, to win souls, one needs prayer for direction on whom to preach
the gospel.[Acts 8:26-40). Third, a soul winner also needs specific
and revealed message to preach what will capture the heart of the
hearer.[John4:18]. Fourth, the preacher should always pray that the
Lord should open the hearts of the hearers to receive because even
though the preacher has a specific message to preach, if theirs heart
are not opened, it will amount to unbelief. [Acts 16:14]. Lastly,
inasmuch we pray the Lord should open their hearts, we also need to
pray for signs and wonder because Jesus says “…except ye see signs
and wonders, ye will not believe”.[John4:48].
Now it’s time for church to stop looking for gimmicks or carnal means
to win souls and get to travail in the place of prayer because it is
only as soon as we travail in prayer that’s when the Word of God will
prevail. This in turn will birth souls that will abide. Glory to God!
CONFESSION FOR THE DAY: Dear Lord Jesus, I dedicate myself today to
Prayer and to the ministry of the Word. I confess that I am filled,
moved with compassion for souls like never before in Jesus name. Amen
